ARTIST STATEMENT
By engaging in repetitive tasks I am able to travel mentally to a place that is different from my reality. My art is a sample of what my hands and body were doing during my mental journeys. I create visual metaphors by repeating shapes with a rhythm, recording my thoughts, and learning processes using selected media to reinforce my ideas.
BIO
I was born in Lubbock, Texas. Ten days after I was born my family moved back to Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, where I was raised. I finished my BFA at La Universidad de las Americas in Puebla, where I learned the art of Japanese paper (Washi Zoquei). In 2003 I moved back to Lubbock and went to Texas Tech University for my MFA. After graduation in 2008, I moved to San Antonio, where I make art, and work as a Faculty Intern Professor at Northwest Vista College.
